The Baraa Primary School Volunteer House is situated in the Moivario area of Arusha. It is about a 15 minute daladala ride from the city, 5 minutes’ walk from Onsea House and a 25 minute walk to Baraa Primary School. The house is situated in a green, wooded area with good views of Mount Meru.
The house has four bedrooms, two with en-suite bathrooms. All the beds have mosquito nets. There is a sitting/dining room and a fireplace. It has a well equipped kitchen and a large pantry with fridge. There is a shared bathroom for the use of the guests in the bedrooms without bathrooms. Sheets, towels and blankets are provided. There are also safes for storing personal items. The house has a nice garden with a balcony with a view over the Baraa Ward. There are also handwashing facilities.
The house is self-catering so volunteers are expected to purchase and prepare their own food and clear up after themselves. We provide filtered water for safe drinking.
The cost of 150 Euro per month covers electricity, small repairs, the security around the house and the cleaning lady. This is one of the cheapest rates in all of Arusha. Wifi is now available and can be purchased daily by the volunteers. An iThemba staff member will show you how to do this upon arrival.
At the volunteer house there are two Askaris, or watchmen, who look after the house and the garden at all times.
